Master Plan

Our vision

A forever home for Camp Hayden

We are inspired to create a camp for people with special needs that incorporates their entire family. Here’s what we envision, in three phases.

Phase 1

Land & Lodge

Land. Camp Hayden needs a home, and that starts with the perfect piece of land we can grow into. We are looking for 20โ€“30 acres close to Idaho Falls to bring every imaginative adventure to life. This property will be home to all Camp Hayden programs and activities โ€” and we are open to acquiring land through donations.

Lodge. All good camps have a wonderful lodge for social gatherings, meals, and activities. The Camp Hayden Lodge will include an industrial kitchen with serving stations and fully accessible bathrooms with changing stations. Its open-air design will let us enjoy every kind of Idaho weather.

Phase 2

Adventure Campground

A place where everyone can enjoy adventures, regardless of their unique abilities: wheelchair-accessible paths throughout the grounds, zip lines, a rope bridge, a tree house, a petting zoo, ponds and water activities, and a beautiful butterfly and sensory garden โ€” open to families who have children with special needs and to the entire community.

Horse arena & petting zoo. Each year our campers experience horses through our partner, Champ’s Heart. A permanent arena and pastures will give Champ’s Heart horses a home โ€” along with our other petting zoo animals.

Cabins & RV park. Accessible cabins for a rustic setting, cabins with water and electricity for families who need them, and RV sites so families can bring the comfort of a familiar environment. Public RV rentals will also help sustain the camp.

Outdoor activity area. A butterfly and sensory garden, accessible paths, water features, an open-air theatre โ€” and for the more adventurous, mini golf and a zip line.

Phase 3

Indoor Activity Center

A truly accessible indoor activity center open to the public โ€” the “Fantasy Factory” โ€” offering barrier-free family fun from virtual reality to interactive play areas. It will provide an inclusive play environment for the community and create long-term sustainability for Camp Hayden.
